WhatsApp is coming to the desktop in the form of a web client for Chrome and Android, the company announced on its website.

The web app connects to the WhatsApp client running on your phone, and requires that your phone be online to work.

“Our web client is simply an extension of your phone: the web browser mirrors conversations and messages from your mobile device — this means all of your messages still live on your phone,” WhatsApp said in its announcement.

Support for more browsers will be coming soon, though iOS users should not hold out hope that they will be able to use the web client any time soon.

“Unfortunately, for now we will not be able to provide the web client to our iOS users due to Apple platform limitations,” WhatsApp said.

You can give the web client a go yourself at the app’s website.
