New lifestyle estate coming to rising millionaire hotspot in South Africa

The Cape Winelands in the Western Cape are set for another luxury lifestyle estate, with the launch of Drakenzicht in 2027.

Legaro Property Development is leading the project and aims to provide lock-and-go living in designer homes built for sustainable living.

The development is nestled in the centre of Paarl, one of South Africa’s most picturesque areas and the largest town in the Cape Winelands.

The Chas Everitt International Property Group is marketing the estate, which will feature a collection of designer 3- and 4-bedroom villas.

Each of the homes was designed by Daffonchio Architects, with residents set to enjoy Stephen Pikus chandeliers, cosy wood-burning fireplaces, Oggie hardwood flooring, and modern gas stoves.

The interiors are designed to embody sophistication with a neutral colour palette. Solar and battery backup are also integrated into each villa in the estate.

The estate’s commitment to green living is also seen by an Edge Advanced rating from the Green Building Council of South Africa, which reduces energy and waste consumption.

Security is central to the estate, with state-of-the-art systems featuring facial recognition, CCTV, motion detectors, electrical fencing, and armed and perimeter drone response.

“Drakenzicht is not just a residence; it’s a lifestyle. The estate’s lifestyle centre is a haven for sports and leisure enthusiasts,” said Chas Everitt.

“From padel and basketball courts to a state-of-the-art Training Science gym, running track, yoga and Pilates studio, and swimming pool, residents have ample opportunities to maintain a healthy lifestyle within a secure environment.”

The estate will also aim to create a family-friendly community, featuring an on-site Montessori School that offers quality private education.

The lifestyle centre of the estate will feature a splash park and play area perfect for children, while a dedicated dog park will be available for pet owners.

Millionaires in the region

The latest Africa Wealth Report showed that the Cape Winelands ranks as the second-richest area in the Western Cape, with 3,600 millionaires, 16 centi-millionaires, and 2 billionaires.

Paarl itself saw property values more than double over the last decade, with no signs of the boom slowing down.

Security estates such as Val de Vie and De Zalze are the rage amongst affluent individuals, with buyers looking to balance rural charm and safety with modern amenities.

Families are also drawn to the strong schools in the area, including Paarl Boys and Girls High, Paarl Gymnasium, and La Rochelle Girls High, while Paul Roos and Rhenish Girls’ High are in the nearby Stellenbosch.

Given the heightened demand in the region, properties in Drakenzicht will not come cheap for buyers, with villas starting from R7.5 million and rising to over R10 million.
