The Gauteng e-tolling system has been put on hold for a month, the ANC said on Thursday (26 April 2012).

It said it reached an agreement to this effect with the Congress of SA Trade Unions in a meeting earlier in the day.

“The leadership has collectively agreed to postpone the implementation of the e-toll collection system by a month,” the ruling African National Ciongress said in a statement.

“This will give the task team more time to explore alternative funding mechanisms.”

Ruling expected Saturday

A ruling on whether the e-tolling of Gauteng’s highways will go-ahead next week will be handed down in the High Court in Pretoria on Saturday (28 April 2012).

“I plan to give judgment at 11am on Saturday,” Judge Bill Prinsloo said on Thursday.

“The matter stands until then.”
