Cape Town municipal manager busted for R70 million fraud

An administrator for the City of Cape Town has been arrested for allegedly defrauding the municipality of R70 million.

Paul Hatting, his wife and third woman believed to be his girlfriend were all arrested, following an investigation by the Western Cape Hawks in 2014.

According to a report by TimesLive, the trio were involved in tender fraud, where three companies owned by the group were awarded tenders to provide cleaning materials and refuse bags to the city.

The tenders were between R900,000 and R45 million.

The three suspects have been charged with fraud and corruption, and are out on bail of R50,000 each.
