DA members bail on Zuma Q&A in Parliament
The Democratic Alliance caucus has walked out of the question-and-answer session in Parliament.
This after President Jacob Zuma told the National Assembly that the rand had been on a downward slope before former finance minister Nhlanhle Nene was removed.
Zuma removed Nene from his post in December and replaced him with little known Des van Rooyen, who was also removed after three days.
The decision to remove Nene was well considered, President Jacob Zuma said on Thursday.
Zuma said there were rational decisions behind Nene’s removal and that the rand had been plummeting before he was replaced.
Zuma said the opposition had always scored Nene very low every year and had even asked him to remove him.
Maimane lambasted the president for his answer, and refused to sit down when ordered to do so by Speaker Baleka Mbete.
He was asked to leave, and his caucus left with him.
