This is the best restaurant in South Africa – also ranking in the top 50 worldwide

La Colombe in Constantia has been named the 49th best restaurant in the world by the World’s 50 Best Restaurants

The restaurant was also named The Best Restuarant in Africa.

“We’re speechless. It’s such an incredible honour for our team’s consistent work and dedication to be recognised at this level,” said Executive Chef James Gaag.

“To not only represent the La Colombe team – but, also our home city of Cape Town – on this stage is an immense privilege. We are so grateful to not only the panel of judges, but to every diner who we have welcomed through our doors – without you, this would not have been possible.”

The World’s 50 Best Restaurants has a panel of 1,080 culinary experts and a snapshot of some of the best destinations for unique culinary experiences.

“Team La Colombe have worked incredibly hard to be on this hugely important list. I am not surprised at their ranking; it is long overdue, and they now shine a spotlight not only on their genius talent but also on our far-flung region,” said Tamsin Snyman, World’s 50 Best Restaurants Academy Chair for South and East Africa.

“This will encourage more people to visit South Africa so we can showcase our culinary talents across the board and reassure everyone that we are a world class dining destination.”

The restaurant serves modern French-meets-Asian dishes.

“The eight or 10-course tasting menus are executed with impeccable precision, yet the experience remains playful and approachable, with guests selecting their own canapes as they begin their meal,” said the World’s 50 Best Restaurants.

“As the restaurant is on a wine estate, you’re guaranteed a great glass, although a lot of thought has gone into the low and no ABV options too.”

Fyn in Cape Town was also recently named the 60th best restaurant in the world by the World 50 Best Restaurants, now losing its title as the best restaurant in South Africa.

Notably, La Petite Colombe in Franschhoek, the sister restaurant of La Colombe, was named the best restaurant in South Africa at the 2024 Luxe Restaurant Awards.
