Independent broadcaster, e-tv will launch four new channels on Platco Digital’s OpenView HD Platform in October 2013.

Platco is e-tv’s sister company which is set to launch as a free-to-air satellite TV broadcaster in October.

It aims to be the first multi-channel platform in South Africa to offer high definition (HD) channels without charging a subscription fee.

Since its inception in October 1998, e-tv says it has grown steadily to establish its position as the most watched commercial free to air English broadcaster in the country.

To commemorate 15 years in broadcasting the channel will launch four additional channels; a local content channel, a kiddies channel, a movie channel and an African channel focusing on Pan-African programming.

“E-tv growth over the past few years is testament to the fact that our viewers value the Channel’s diverse programming and position as the entertainment destination of choice for many South Africans,” said e-tv group head of channels, Monde Twala.

“It has always been our aim to provide content which is innovative, entertaining and reflective of the changing lives of our audience.  These new channels will allow us to showcase more diversity and our ability to appeal across various demographics of our society,”

E-tv will also be including its channels on the free-to-air  Digital Terrestrial Television (DTT) platform when it launches.

The channel noted that Sentech, the national signal distributor, recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding regarding the distribution of e-tv channels on the DTT platform.

Further details about e.tv’s new channels will be revealed  during September, the group said.
