Standard Bank Mobile rebrands – launches new new deals with MTN
Standard Bank has announced a new Mobile Virtual Network Operator (MVNO) collaboration with MTN, giving its South African customers access to the MTN’s coverage across the country.
As part of the collaboration, the bank said its existing Standard Bank Mobile will be renamed to Standard Bank Connect, which will ultimately introduce a new set of data and voice packages for customers.
Kartik Mistry, head of Standard Bank Connect, said working with MTN will allow the bank to offer new products to customers.
He said the transition would be gradual, initially launching services to customers through a pilot programme, which will help the bank “build meaningful services together”.
Standard Bank first introduced its MVNO offering in 2018 using wireless capacity from Cell C and MTN.
The mobile service has since grown to over 300,000 customers across the country, it said, with bank fees offered back in airtime based on the products and services customers have with the bank.
Under the new collaboration, Standard Bank said it will offer two primary connectivity packages: Connected Circle and Connected Gigs Plans.
Connected Circle Plans cater to voice and data needs with options like Starter, Lite, Plus, and Pro, offering unlimited calls to select numbers and inclusive data, while connected Gigs Plans target data-centric users with competitive data bundles, while also offering airtime bundles for voice and SMS.
Qualifying plans provide monthly discounts of up to 50% on tech accessories through other partnerships.
Additional features include month-to-month flexibility, with options to commit for 3, 6, or 12 months for extra benefits, auto top-up for continuous data access, and a limited-time R1 Promotion allowing full plan benefits until the first billing date.
Plans are currently available online, with in-branch availability coming soon.
