Vivo has unveiled its V30 5G and V30e smartphones in South Africa.

During the launch event at the Jody Scheckter Viewing Deck in Kyalami, Vivo said these smartphones focus on delivering excellent photography features.

“The ambition of our V30 5G series is to bring our consumers studio-level portrait quality,” said Vivo SA GTM Manager Jay Yang.

The V30 range will also be the first Vivo smartphones to be launched on all four of South Africa’s major operators – MTN, Vodacom, Telkom, and Cell C.

We unpack the key features of each Vivo V30 smartphone, below.

Vivo V30 5G

The V30 5G’s headline feature is its Aura Light Portrait – a rectangular panel on the smartphone’s rear that delivers better lighting for your photos.

According to Vivo, this module delivers 19 times the light emitting area and 50 times the light softness when compared to conventional smartphone flash sensors.

It also boasts targeted technologies like Distance Lighting—which optimises lighting based on the subject’s distance away from the camera—and Smart Colour Temperature Adjustment.

This lighting module and its technologies are designed specifically to work well with the V30 5G’s camera system, which includes a 50MP Ultra Wide-Angle Camera, a 50MP VCS True Colour camera, and a supplementary 2MP sensor.

The V30 5G’s display then comprises a curved 6.78-inch 2,800 x 1,260 AMOLED screen with a 120Hz refresh rate and 2,800 nits of local peak brightness.

This curved display minimises the smartphones bezels, which are exclusively found on the top and the bottom of the device.

For performance, the Vivo V30 5G boasts a Qualcomm Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 processor, 512GB storage, and 12GB RAM.

Additional support for 12GB of virtual memory enables up to 48 apps to run simultaneously in the background.

Rounding out this package is a 5,000mAh battery and 80W fast charging power, which allowis it to charge from 0-100% in only 48 minutes.

Vivo V30e

The V30e shares most of the V30’s features but differs in a few areas.

Firstly, and most notably, it doesn’t have the innovative Aura Light Portrait module.

This means it will offer reduced photography capabilities – but it still delivers an impressive dual-sensor rear camera system and a great 32MP selfie camera.

Vivo has also replaced the V30 5G’s display with a 6.6-inch 2,340 x 1,080 AMOLED with a 90Hz refresh rate, and it has less storage space – 256GB compared to the V30 5G’s 512GB.

However, it retains the 12GB RAM and 12GB extendable memory of its big brother.

This smartphone also offers increased battery capacity at 5,500mAh – which will be preferable to many users.

Pricing and specifications

The Vivo V30 smartphones will be available in South Africa at the following recommended retail prices:

  • V30 5G – R19,999
