New Eskom CEO to start in October
Power utility Eskom’s new chief executive officer, Tshediso Matona, will assume duty on 1 October 2014.
This is according to Public Enterprises minister, Lynne Brown, who said that Matsietsi Mokholo, the department’s current deputy director-general for legal and governance, was appointed Acting Director-General and Accounting Officer of the Department with effect from 1 September 2014.
Matona is the current director general of Public Enterprises and is a former DG of Trade and industry, between 2006 – 2010.
Former Eskom CEO, Brian Dames stepped down from the position at the end of March 2014, and was replaced by former National Energy Regulator of SA chairman, Collin Matjila, in an acting capacity.
In July, Eskom reported a net profit of R7.1 billion for the year ended March 2014, up from R5.2 billion in the previous year.
However, it noted that its earnings were significantly less than the R12.2 billion reported for the six months ended 30 September 2013.
The group has declared four power system emergencies during the course of the year, and on 6 March 2014, it was forced to implement load shedding for the first time since 2008.
