Expansys SA in liquidation
Premium Stores, the group which manages the licence to trade under the Expansys brand in South Africa is in liquidation.
Expansys South Africa – which claims to be the largest online store for smartphones, netbooks, laptops and accessories in the country – went offline abruptly at the start of the year, with disgruntled customers venting their anger and frustration with the company on consumer champion site HelloPeter.
The group said in a statement on its website on Friday (11 January):
“Expanysy PLC acknowledges that our franchise partner (Premium Group of Online Stores CC) who manages the licence to trade under the Expansys brand in South Africa has ceased to trade under the terms within a court appointed Liquidation Order.
“We are currently collating all orders and outstanding communication requirements from our customers in South Africa. As from Monday 14th January 2013 we will be communicating with all customers directly regarding all outstanding enquiries.
“If you are emailing us at [email protected] please could you make sure that your order reference number is included as this will assist us in dealing with your enquiry as quickly as possible.
“We apologise for any inconvenience this may have caused and look forward to resuming normal service in the near future.
Expansys was founded in the UK and has regional offices in the UK, France, the USA, and Hong Kong.
Complaints started filtering through on HelloPeter from around 2 January with customers complaining that they were not receiving ordered goods, while adding to their frustration, they said they could not get through to the company.
One person wrote on Hello Peter on Friday (11 January):
“I ordered an Otterbox Defender case for a Samsung Galaxy note 2 on the 22 December. Tried calling the call centre no answer. Very disappointed! This is not the way one should conduct business. I have already paid R670 to them not knowing if I will be receiving the goods. I guess I have to kiss it bye bye! Thank u expanys for making my Friday more miserable! Thanks alot!”
