Facebook said its network experienced an ‘issue’ during network maintenance which prevented some users from posting on the site.

The group issues out the following statement:

“Earlier this morning, while performing some network maintenance, we experienced an issue that prevented some users from posting to Facebook for a brief period of time. We resolved the issue quickly, and we are now back to 100%. We’re sorry for any inconvenience we may have caused.”

According to various reports, as well as numerous comments on social media site Twitter, users were greeted with the message “There was a problem updating your status. Please try again in a few minutes,” when trying to use massively popular social media site.

Facebook has a user base of nearly 1.2 billion people. It is not clear what areas are affected.

BusinessTech confirmed the error, while the Wall Street Journal also reported that, when using the iPhone app, a status message appeared to go through without error, but ultimately never published.
