The best online stores in SA
Kalahari.com has beaten off competition from Yuppiechef and Woolworths to be rated as the site South African online shoppers are most satisfied with.
The inaugural Online Retail SITEisfaction in SA Survey; conducted by online marketing research company, Columinate, scored Kalahari.com with 76 points, with Yuppiechef (71), Woolworths (63), Takealot.com (55), and Groupon (54) taking up the top five positions.
Electronics good e-tailers scored poorly with Dion Wired at 17 points, and Hi Fi Corp at 14 points, against an average of 40 points.
Online clothing retailers Mr Price and Zando both scored 46 points.
Columinate found that 77% of more than 2,000 respondents indicated they have abandoned their shopping cart because they found a better deal elsewhere, or they changed their mind.
When shoppers were prompted about why they like shopping online, references to ‘convenience’ and ‘saving time and money’ were top of mind.
However, the data revealed that consumers might not be as rational about their motivations for online retail therapy as they think.
64% of online purchases were made within the ‘wants’ category (travel, music, books, games, DVDs, event tickets etc.); whereas, only 36% of purchases were made on ‘essential’ goods such as groceries, clothes and health supplies.
Columinate said it weighted the number of highly satisfied users against the percentage of highly dissatisfied users. A score of zero would therefore indicate neutrality towards a site, with 100 being the highest possible score.
