Woolworths launches click-and-collect for online shopping – how it works

 ·21 Dec 2022

Major South African retailer Woolworths has partnered with logistics company Pargo to expand its online delivery network and allow its customers to pick up their online orders at nearby Pargo click-and-collect pick-up points.

This partnership will allow customers to collect their parcels from a convenient location and time, providing customers with more choices with online shopping, said Woolworths.

The retailer added that The Pargo click-and-collect service would initially be piloted in the Western Cape with over 250 pick-up points across the province, with plans to phase in in-store collection points before making this service available on the Woolies app in the new year, said Woolworths.

“We realise that some of our customers are not always available to receive parcels delivered to them. Parcel pick-up will bolster our omnichannel value proposition and further provide our customers with convenient delivery options that suit their individual lifestyles. This partnership will now allow us to offer another reliable delivery option to our growing click-and-collect customer base,” said Liz Hillock, Director of Online and Mobile at Woolworths.

“Woolworths Fashion, Beauty and Home customers will now enjoy the convenience and reliability of Pargo click-and-collect with optionality at checkout when browsing their favourite products online. We look forward to working with Woolies in taking their online customer shopping experience to the next level,” added Adam Sack, Pargo Head of Inside Sales and Client Success.

During the pilot, the service will only be available on the Woolworths website.

The process of using Pargo’s click-and-collect service works as follows:

  • Customers can place their orders online and choose a Pargo click-and-collect pick-up point convenient for them.
  • When the parcel arrives at the chosen pick-up point, customers will receive an email notification with a five-digit code that they will use to retrieve the parcel, along with their ID.
  •  Customers have eight days to collect their parcel/s from their chosen pick-up location.

Woolworths’ online delivery services have become a go-to option for South Africans looking to shop online, given its wide range of groceries, household essentials, fashion, and personal care products which can be delivered conveniently and cost-effectively.

The Pargo partnership only adds to the retailer’s customer convenience initiatives, such as same-day delivery and the ability to schedule deliveries for a specific time slot, making it easy for customers to get their Woolworths products when it works best for them.

This includes Woolworths’ recent expansion of its online delivery networks with same-day delivery to locations across South Africa’s coast. According to the group, the expansion strategy is to meet the festive season demand and assist customers in skipping long queues.

Woolworths said it now offers online delivery coverage for coastal towns, including:

  • Langebaan

  • Mossel Bay
  • George
  • Knysna
