Business Talk – HEINEKEN Director Millicent Maroga unpacks the company’s sustainability projects
In this Business Talk with Michael Avery interview, HEINEKEN Beverages South Africa Corporate Affairs Director Millicent Maroga discusses the company’s biggest sustainability projects.
Maroga previously worked at South African Breweries (SAB) as a Public Policy Projects Manager and a Corporate Affairs Manager.
She was then appointed as the Head of the Old Mutual Foundation from 2015 until 2018, where she was responsible for driving Old Mutual’s social investment strategy and staff volunteerism programmes.
In her current role at HEINEKEN, Maroga leads the company’s Corporate Affairs agenda and directly influences its sustainability projects with the goal of “brewing a better world”.
Maroga is also an alumnus of the Brightest Young Minds and Golden Key societies, and has served in various other activist and outreach programmes.
The interview
Maroga begins the interview by explaining how HEINEKEN is reaching its ambitious sustainability goals.
She then unpacks several of the company’s biggest sustainability projects in South Africa.
She first discusses the “Fields Green with Grass, Not Glass” initiative, before outlining HEINEKEN’s returnable bottles policy. She also explains why these projects are important to HEINEKEN.
Maroga concludes the interview by explaining what HEINEKEN’s Green Zones are – and she announces that three new Green Zones will be launched in March this year.
