South Africa’s largest mobile operator Vodacom was trending on social media on Monday evening, as subscribers complained that their data and airtime had disappeared.
“I literally switch on my mobile data for 20 seconds and boom. Data gone,” said one customer on Twitter.
“I bought 10 gigs of data today and it’s all gone. @Vodacom Please talk to us,” said another comment on the social media platform.
“Vodacom keeps taking my data & airtime as soon as I recharge. It’s happened three times now. What’s going on?” asked another.
Numerous other comments referenced the same issue and demanded that the mobile operator take action.
Customers complained that they could not get through to customer care. “Vodacom Just stole 1.5 Gig what the hell is happening guys? @Vodacom the call centre is dropping us,” said a user.
Vodacom said in a brief statement on Twitter: “We are aware that some customers are unable to use purchased bundles / getting depletion notifications. Apologies for the inconvenience.”
In a separate note on Tuesday morning, Vodacom said: “We are currently reimbursing customers affected by last night billing issue. We will ensure that all related out-of bundle charges refunded.
“We sincerely apologise for the inconvenience.”
