Vodacom has entered into a partnership agreement with music streaming service Deezer, Bloomberg has reported.

Deezer is a music streaming service which offers unlimited access to 30 million tracks, online and offline, on all devices.  The services allows users to download playlists and albums and listen to them even when not connected to the Internet.

According to Bloomberg, the deal with Deezer is exclusive and will last for a year; while the terms & conditions on the Vodacom website note that the service is free to subscribers for the first month, and will cost R59.99 per month therafter.

This is not the only deal between Deezer and a Vodafone subsidiary, and it is also not the first time a South African operator has partnered with a streaming music provider.

Earlier this year, German broadcaster ProSiebenSat announced that it acquired a minority stake in Deezer and had struck a deal with Vodafone Germany.

MTN also announced earlier this year that it had struck a deal with Simfy Africa, offering its subscribers access to Simfy’s “Premium Plus” service for R49/month, which is R10 less than the normal monthly fee.
