Eskom load shedding forecast for the week

 ·17 Feb 2015

Eskom says that the electricity supply system is still constrained but stable, with the group not anticipating any load shedding on Tuesday (17 February).

“Any extra load or faults in the system may necessitate the need to go into load shedding. Eskom is implementing its maintenance plan to increase the reserve margin and stabilise the grid,” it said.

Eskom said that it should have enough capacity to meet the country’s power needs for the remainder of the week.

  • Tuesday (17 February): The capacity available to meet the evening peak demand is 32,710 MW (including open cycle gas turbines) while demand is forecast 31,481 MW.
  • Wednesday (18 February): The capacity available to meet that evening’s peak demand is 32,557 MW (including open cycle gas turbines) while demand is forecast 31,634 MW.
  • Thursday (19 February): The capacity available to meet that evening’s peak demand is 33,108 MW (including open cycle gas turbines) while demand is forecast 31,273 MW.
  • Friday (20 February): The capacity available to meet that evening’s peak demand is 33,791 MW (including open cycle gas turbines) while demand is forecast 30,590 MW.
  • Saturday (21 February): The capacity available to meet that evening’s peak demand is 35,157 MW (including open cycle gas turbines) while demand is forecast 29,224 MW.
