Woolworths launches new ‘after dark’ delivery

Woolworths has announced that it will trial new “after dark” delivery services through Uber Eats in partnership with Engen Quickshop.
The service will allow South Africans to order Woolworths products from Woolworths Foodstops at Engen using the Uber Eats app.
This will allow them to get selected Woolworths items “far beyond traditional delivery hours”, with orders available until midnight.
24 Woolworths Foodstops are now shoppable on Uber Eats in Gauteng, Kwa-Zulu Natal, and the Western Cape, with nine more stores to be added before the end of March.
The service is available in these areas:
- KZN: Engen 45th, Engen Mitchell Park, Engen Fairway, Engen Illala Ridge, Engen Richards Bay, Engen Ballito and Engen Malvern.
- Western Cape: Engen on Orange, Engen Vineyard, Engen Paradyskloof and Engen La Rochelle.
- Gauteng: Engen Main Road (Bryanston), Engen Fairland, Engen William Nicol, Engen Edenburg, Engen Rivonia, Engen Woodlands, Engen Conrad, Engen Golden Harvest, Engen Willowcrest, Engen Kyalami Gardens, Engen Rembrandt Park, Engen Oxford Road and Engen Summit Convenience.
These areas are coming soon:
- Western Cape: Engen Sea Point, Engen Meadowridge, Engen Sonnendal, Engen Settlers Way, Engen Tyger Waterfront.
- Gauteng: Engen Technopark, Engen Magalieskruin, Engen Bakenkop.
To access the service, customers can search “Woolies” on the Uber Eats app.
Woolworths said that all deliveries will maintain the Woolies cold chain and shoppers can enjoy the same quality on Uber Eats as they would on the group’s own delivery platform, Woolies Dash.
“Woolies After Dark is the natural next step in on-demand delivery, building on the Woolies Dash promise of convenience anytime and anywhere,” the group said.
Cikida Gcali, General Manager for Grocery & Retail at Uber Eats, noted that certain parts of the country have had access to Woolworths’ food on Uber Eats during smaller trials, “and the demand was exceptional”.
Woolworths said that the expansion of the service comes after the success of these trials.
The group noted that close to 20% of sales from participating Woolworths Foodstops are a result of Woolies After Dark.
