Eskom senior managers placed on suspension
Eskom has suspended three senior managers at its Koeberg Power Station in the Western Cape.
“Eskom has placed the Koeberg power station manager and the plant manager on precautionary suspension as a result of the distribution of documentation containing unauthorised facts and assumptions relating to Koeberg’s Production Plan and in particular, the steam generator replacement,” said the utility in a statement.
The potential prejudice caused to Eskom by the unauthorised actions of the suspended personnel is currently being assessed, said the utility on Wednesday.
Koeberg is the country’s only nuclear plant.
Drone crash in Koeberg site
In another unrelated incident, a drone crashed on the Koeberg site in contravention of the nuclear safety regulations. The drone was returned to its owner without the investigation having been completed.
“Eskom has subsequently suspended the Koeberg safety officer as a precautionary measure to fully investigate the incident. The matter has also been reported to the SAPS as Koeberg is a National Key Point,” said Eskom.
Meanwhile, on Tuesday Eskom marked one year of no load shedding. This, according to the utility, is largely due to the rigorous plant maintenance programme that the utility executed over the past 12 months.
