Zoopy’s new direction

After months of silence, Zoopy is set for a complete overhaul that will see the online platform open up to new media channels.

With a targeted relaunch set for 1 April 2013, the Vodacom-owned video and media platform is currently restructuring its business to form a “DStv-like” platform that will produce content for different channels.

In the overhaul, Zoopy will adjust its content strategy from a mobile video tabloid platform to an online portal that hosts specifically-targeted content produced for 3 different “channels”.

Working with SABC 1, Metro FM and an unnamed media partner, Zoopy’s production team will work to produce content for these channels.

The idea, according to Zoopy, is for the Zoopy platform to serve as the online digital house for this content, accessible via the web.

Channels

Previously, Zoopy focused its content around short media clips reporting on entertainment and tabloid news. This content is now being produced for SABC 1 through a show called The Link.

The Link’s content is targeted to young women, and covers tabloid news, fashion and beauty.

Zoopy also noted that urban commercial radio station, Metro FM will be featured on the platform as a channel all on its own.

Overhauling

According to Zoopy, the overhaul is more than just in terms of content and strategy.

As the site will serve as a video portal for channel content, there has been a complete upgrade and rebuilding of the company’s back-end systems.

Part of the new strategy will also see the launch of native apps for smartphones and smart devices.

Currently, Zoopy’s production team is made up of a team of 10 freelancers and full-time staff, though this number is set to rise as the platform, under its new strategy, expands and builds new content.

Neither Zoopy nor Vodacom would comment further on other companies involved with the overhaul, or other possible media partners involved.

“We’re not in a position to comment on the plans for Zoopy at this stage,” Vodacom said.
