Absa takes free Wi-Fi to township mall
Absa has extended its free Wi-Fi service to a branch in Maponya Mall, offering up to 100MB of free data per day to all shoppers.
The bank claims to be the first financial institution at one of Gauteng’s major township shopping centres.
“The service is available for use on any wireless mobile device, tablet or PC within a two meter radius of the branch. This also allows non-Absa customers to walk into the mall, log in and prosper,” said provincial executive of retail banking in Gauteng, Kudzi Samushonga.
Other branches which feature this facility include Sandton Mall, Hyde Park, Alberton, Edenvale, Balfourpark and Southgate Mall, with several new branches set to offer the service in the coming months, Absa said.
“Our aim is to use technology not only to extend the reach of financial services across all communities but also to provide a mobile banking platform that allows our customers to access us in the channel most convenient to them,” Samushonga said.
Absa said it has put in place a plan to regain its leading position in the retail market. “Absa’s commitment is evident through a significant investment into the upgrading of its branch network and digital capabilities,” it said.
