Superbalist hits user milestone, offers free delivery
Online designer retailer, Superbalist.com has hit the 1 million user milestone – and is now permanently offering free delivery on all orders.
The group was acquired by bigger online retail group Takealot.com in August, following a restructuring of Superbalist’s logistics and handling processes.
Takealot.com is currently cash flush having recently announced an investment of US$100 million led by Tiger Global Management for continued expansion in South Africa and sub-Saharan Africa.
Company CEO, Kim Reid, has set the company an ambitious task of overtaking Naspers owned Kalahari.com, as the biggest e-commerce player in the country within the next year.
On the back of the acquisition, Superbalist.com is also expanding, with new international and local brands being added to the site’s five departments: women, men, home, art and geekery.
Claude Hanan, co-founder of Superbalist.com said that the retailer’s growth has been customer-driven, showing that the site’s curated, high-end fashion and design products are what customers are looking for.
““We’ve been analysing customer behaviour and adjusting our product offering based on their needs,” he said.
“Introducing free deliveries going forward is our way of saying thanks, and a promise that we’ll continue to bring you more of what you want,” Hanan said.
According to surveys conducted by e-commerce fulfillment company, ParcelNinja and logistics firm, Aramax, free delivery was ranked as the most desired thing South Africans want from online shopping.
