- The Automobile Association and Solidarity have come out with an interim petrol price update – with the rand being knocked around this week, here’s what you can expect to happen to the fuel prices in February.
- A massive banner declaring “Zuma Must Fall” has been erected in Cape Town, sending South Africans into a tizz. No one has claimed ownership of the costly sign, leaving everyone guessing as to who is bankrolling the politically-charged message.
- The FW de Klerk Foundation has submitted a complaint to the SA Human Rights Commission regarding 45 social media postings that incite extreme violence against white South Africans. The group says that the most virulent and dangerous racism has come from disaffected black South Africans.
- Sanral has started sending out text messages to Gauteng motorists, threatening them to pay up, or face action. Anti-toll group, Outa, says that the “intimidation tactic” shouldn’t be feared. Sanral is also trying to convince people to pay by asking nicely.
- Finance Minister Pravin Gordahn has snuffed out claims that the country is headed for a recession – but he didn’t provide much hope for the economic outlook, saying that, while there is growth, it’s far too slow.
And in case you missed it – reports of a mid-flight robbery on SAA went viral this week, and new reports have found that the crime is far more common than initially thought.
